Vietnam is one of the world’s largest exporters of wood products, including to the U.S.
Evidence suggests that Vietnam is relying on imports of timber harvested in other countries, perhaps illegally. Reports indicate timber exported from Cambodia to Vietnam was sourced from protected lands as well as potential illegal access involving other countries.
On October 2, 2020 the U.S Trade Representative (USTR) initiated a Section 301 investigation into Vietnam’s activities, policies and practices related to the import and use of illegal timbers.
The USTR invites comments relative to this matter which must be submitted electronically. Please access the link here for further instructions.
