Hong Kong Normalization: Additional 45-day Compliance Period for Country of Origin Marking

On July 14, 2020 President Trump issued Executive Order 13936 mandating goods produced in Hong Kong be marked with country of origin China.

Customs and Border Protection gave a grace period through September 25, 2020 for importers to ensure compliance.

Customs has now announced an additional 45-day grace period through November 9, 2020 to allow importers ample time to comply with the Executive Order.

During this time, Centers of Excellence and the Ports of Entry have been notified not to take enforcement actions for country of origin Hong Kong.

Filers are still required to report country of origin China when filing the entries.

The above-mentioned grace period does not affect the assessment of duty and payment thereof.
