Freight Service Australia: Heavy Lift Cargo Shipment

Getting a Vital Heavy Lift Shipment Downunder

As one of the primary contributors to the Australian economy, mining has long since been a critical industry that provides not only export income but also employment in significant locations across the country. Our client is a leading global resources company within the minerals and petroleum markets. Crane Worldwide has been entrusted as a preferred supplier following several years of handling critical shipment needs and providing expert advice and assistance.

The Challenge

Our client approached the Australian branch of Crane Worldwide Logistics to transport multiple parts that are used in the mining excavation process, and a keen sense of urgency was required. Crane trusses and components, some measuring over 32 meters in length, were needed in Australia in early September from their origin of Slovakia and Austria.

At origin, the transportation of this specialized equipment required appropriate documentation issued from numerous authorities to cross borders from Slovakia and Austria into Germany as well as specialized loading documentation at the origin ports.

Our Solution

Crane Worldwide Logistics Australia partnered with our logistics specialists in Germany. A project plan was created to provide a cost-effective and time-sensitive solution in transporting the oversized equipment and parts.

Permits were obtained to cross borders in Europe as well as barge- side loading of oversized equipment at the port. A crane was then used to load the material from the barge into a waiting vessel. They were loaded from the waterside due to their length, as the containers could not be handled by using the short lane in the port. Additional parts were shipped via breakbulk. A week prior, FCL cargo was loaded into nine containers for the client.

“This was an excellent opportunity to shine, demonstrating to our clients how Crane Worldwide Logistics goes above and beyond to create an effective solution.”

The Result

The equipment arrived in Adelaide following the schedule and settlement proposed by Crane Worldwide. Constant communication, supplying photographs, load plans, and time frames with the client helped to develop further trust and collaboration. Additionally, using a container vessel for the oversized equipment helped to provide additional benefits to the client, not only when considering costs, but also due to more frequent sailings.

At Crane Worldwide, we believe in trust, collaboration, and teamwork
