Strike Action Planned in Japan Ports

On March 25, the Central Labor and Management Association of Port Transport held the third round of collective bargaining.

The Japan Harbor Transportation Association (JHTA) gave a revised response to the union's demands, including a large wage increase.

However, the National Federation of Port Workers' Unions (Zenkoku Kohan) and the All-Japan Federation of Port Transport Workers' Unions (Kounreikai) were not satisfied with the content of the reply, and notified that they would strike and exercise the right to take leave for 24 hours from the start of work on Sunday, March 30, to the start of work on March 31 at all ports and in all work categories.

This is the first strike in about six years since April 2007.

It is a 24-hour strike starting 0830hrs, Sunday, Mar 30 to Monday 0830hrs Mar 31.

The strike involves the loading and discharge work of vessels but NOT pilots/tugs.
