Frankfurt Airport will be completely closed to departing passengers on Thursday due to the strike by aviation security staff.

A strike by security staff at Frankfurt Airport has been announced for Thursday, March 7, 2024. The strike will cause major disruptions and flight cancellations throughout the day. All Security checkpoints will remain closed.

Hamburg Airport had already canceled all 141 departures for Thursday on Tuesday evening. According to the press office of Helmut Schmidt Airport, some of the planes would take off without passengers. This was necessary to avoid further disruptions to air traffic.

The strike on long distance and regional train services begins at 2 AM on Thursday and according to GDL union, will last until 1 PM on Friday. GDL (Gewerkschaft Deutscher Lokomotivführer) have stated they anticipate rail travel will be "unreliable" so strike times could change at the last minute so that train operators cannot plan ahead.
