Crane Worldwide Logistics would like to advise customers of ongoing operational challenges affecting air cargo movements through Mumbai (BOM) and Navi Mumbai International (NMI) airports in India.
Several airlines have temporarily suspended or significantly restricted freighter operations due to airport infrastructure constraints, cargo congestion, and ground handling limitations. These conditions are impacting cargo acceptance, transit times, and overall air freight capacity in the region.
Current Airline Operational Status
The following restrictions are currently being reported:
- Lufthansa Cargo is not presently operating freighter services to or from Mumbai.
- Air France and Singapore Airlines are experiencing similar operational restrictions.
- Qatar Airways continues to operate freighter services; however, it is currently unable to accept certain origin and destination shipments, including dangerous goods, from Mumbai.
- Silk Way Airlines is experiencing significant cargo backlogs and is not currently accepting export cargo from Mumbai.
Additional carriers may implement similar restrictions if operational conditions persist.
Potential Impact to Shipments
Customers with shipments originating from, transiting through, or destined for the Mumbai region may experience: - Extended transit times - Reduced air freight capacity - Booking delays and limited space availability - Cargo acceptance restrictions - Potential service disruptions across affected trade lanes
Mitigation Measures
Our India operations team is actively working with airline partners and airport stakeholders to minimize disruption and maintain supply chain continuity. Where operationally feasible, alternative export gateways are being evaluated, including: - Ahmedabad (AMD) - Hyderabad (HYD) - Chennai (MAA) - Bengaluru (BLR) - Delhi (DEL) Availability of these alternatives will depend on shipment requirements, customer registrations, and airline operating conditions.
Recommended Actions
We encourage customers with time-critical or sensitive shipments to:
- Review upcoming shipment plans with their Crane Worldwide Logistics representative.
- Allow additional lead time for bookings and cargo acceptance.
- Explore alternate routing options where appropriate.
- Communicate any production-critical, AOG, project-related, or compliance-sensitive shipments as early as possible.
