Ambassador Katherine Tai issued a statement on November 2, 2021 indicating three countries would be terminated from the AGOA preference program as of January 1, 2022 unless their governments take the urgent action to meet the statutory eligibility criteria.
The three countries are:
- Guinea
- Mali
- Ethiopia
The US urges these governments to take the necessary steps to meet the critieria of this program so the removal action won’t be necessary. Ambassador Tai will provide each country with clear benchmarks leading towards reinstatement and the Biden administration will work with each to achieve the objective.
